Bio :
José Fernandez The star of flamenco fusion Born to an Andalusian gypsy family, where most were musicians, from his grandfather, a well-known Flamenco singer & poet, to his father, a great bass player, he inherited a fiery gypsy temperament and a keenly developed artistic sense. Taking part in gypsy ceremonies since he was 4, José showed interest in many instruments. He mastered the drums, the guitar, the piano, the bass under various forms (guitar bass, double-bass, baby bass…) and then the percussion (timbales, congas, bongos, darbuka) even the Greek Bouzouki. At the age of 12, José formed a music band with his brothers and cousins, under the supervision of his father. «Camino Gitano» was his first album released in early year 1999. After the smashing success of José´s concerts in duet with the tarab legend, Wadih El Safi, and the arabo-andalusian orchestra, they recorded an album together. In the summer 2002 he released his album «Makhlouta», which corresponds to a Lebanese dish of vegetables and beans mix, signifying the mix of musical «ingredients» from Middle-Eastern, Flamenco, Brazilian, and funk to swing. He has also collaborated in the arrangement of «Corazon Partio», Alejandro Sanz’ song, sang by the Spanish flamenco singer, Duquende. He performed with the talented guitarist, Diego Cortes, in Chispa Negra concert. Performing internationally, in hundreds of the world’s biggest festivals and concerts, José continues to enhance his career to gratify his motivation. Jose’s style is best described as Mediterranean, evoking the color of the sea around the Greek islands, the scent of morning blooms, the taste of Moroccan spices and the warmth of the sun in Malaga. Besides "Camino Gitano," and after the smashing success of José's concerts in duet with the living legend of tarab Wadih El Safi and the "all star" arabo-andalousian orchestra, José recorded an album with Wadih El Safi. José Fernandez launched in the summer 2002 his new album "Makhlouta." "Makhlouta" is a Lebanese dish that mixes vegetables and beans. Jose's new album is a fusion of musical "ingredients" including Middle-Eastern, Flamenco, Brazilian, funk and swing.
